Document Summary

Allies (great britain and france) vs axis powers (ger, ita, japan) Hitler wanted to get back prussia, reuniting german speaking people. Neutrality act (1935-37)- us plan to keep themselves out of war. Us did not want to be involved with european business plus the fact of great depression. Cash + carry (1937) - way roosevalt tried to maintain neutrality. After germany invades poland, france and germany declare war. Germany also made deal with soviet union (hitler-stalin pact or molotov-ribbentrop pact). Germany tried to prevent two front war like in ww1. Soviet and germany would not go to war with each other if war breaks out. Stalin liked molotov and ribbentrop pact because stalin gets to rebuild population and army and gave soviet union part of poland. Stalin then used it as chance to regain land lost from russian. Finland joined axis because they did not want to join soviets.
