Cruel and unusual punishment: forbidden by the eighth amendment, but such punishment is not defined. Free exercise clause: allows individuals to practice their religion without government coercion. Freedom of the press f: freedom from prior restraint censorship. Libel: consists of printed or broadcast statements that are false and that tarnish someone"s reputation. Miranda rights: officials must advise suspects of their rights before their interrogation. Natural rights: given by god, not by government, the right could not be taken away by government. Plea bargain: an agreement among prosecutors, the defense attorney, and the defendant, with the explicit or implicit approval of the judge, to reduce charges or the sentence in exchange for a guilty plea. Public forum: serves as the poor person"s printing press ( the soap box) Seditious speech: encourages opposition to or rebellion against the government.
