Document Summary

2 criteria for a species to be able to split. All the things that cause evolution also causes isolation which will eventually lead to speciation. Thought of during the modern synthesis period. Asexual species cannot be categorized using the biological species concept. With species that we only know from the fossil record, we cannot determine how they breeded or if they interbred. Evolutionarily independent if the species are phenotypically different. Species that have different phenotypical differences which are actually the same. Often leads to having the wrong choices due to being the same species or due to homoplasy speciation. Two things needed for speciation to occur. Sympatry means that the population is together. Creation of physical barrier that ends up isolating a population into two subgroups. Causes a population in allopatry to gradually or instantly change into sympatric and then gradually speciation will occur.
