Document Summary
4 fundamental rules: delay and postpone judging until later, quantity matters. Go fast, generate as many ideas as possible: build on previous ideas to improve them and jump to new ones, stretch your imagination. Delaying judgment shifts the brain from analysis mode to synthesis mode. The more ideas expressed, the higher chance of a better solution. Must free ourselves from mental barriers and any other limitations. Have a strong understanding of the problem and the background situation. Programmed invention focuses on improving one idea instead of generating many new ones (gives credit to the originator of the idea) This is a variation of brainstorming where 6 participants in a circle sketch 3 solution in 5 minutes with no interruptions. Consists of picking several attributes or subcomponents of the whole system listing alternative solutions or ideas for each attribute or subsystem, and then randomly connecting the entries on the lists to each other to create a whole solution.
