Two properties: number of parties, can affect the spectrum of democracy to authoritarianism, relations among them, when there is competition it is called competitive party system, the less competition the more authoritarian leaning. Satori"s definition- 2 categories: the major parties we speak of are the ones with governing potentials or are major players. Can be majority party: the smaller parties with blackmail potential, can split votes and influence agenda. Limited multiparty tend to be more consensual, voters are willing to vote bc the parties re in coalitions.
