What is wacquant talking about when he says: hyperincarceration: incarceration has been targeted by (three components): Segregation, white flight : can be in context with mass incarceration". What are the causes: what caused the revanchist movement, causes: Huge collapse in the livelihoods of working class communities. There is not as excess of labor, so we do not need everyone as active members of our society people may commit crimes b/c they cannot have a job. The whole set of policies that increases corporate power and increases profits. Has slashed the safety net / social welfare. Social inequality produced by mass incarceration is sizable and enduring because. Western and pettit: incarceration and social inequality invisible. If you are not in the area where it is occurring- you do not see it. If you are not directly involved in the criminal justice system- it is easy to forget.
