Holds same goal want to escape from samsara. Attained enlightenment the buddha = awakened . His father did not want him to discover suffering . Prophecy gonna be a great king or great religious man. The answers are not to be found in the extremes. Cause of suffering craving/selfish desires lead to attachments (cycle of attachment; pleasure is short-lived making it powerful) Eightfold path: right understanding understanding 4 noble truths, right motivation, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, meditation. Goal = nirvana state of being that frees us from samsara. Sense that people who achieve nirvana = gone . Proselytizing religion = to convert people to one"s religion. Appeals to everyone b/c open to anyone. Tibet, china, trade routes along central asia (silk road), korea, japan. Incorporates all of the devas but their importance is demoted a lot. Anything that thinks and can feel are sentient beings do not like suffering. Things change in the world and we can"t stop it.
