The origin of western philosophy is found in ancient greece (specifically in ionia, on the anatolian peninsula); in fact, it is believed that pythagoras of samos was the first to use the term. According to pythagoras, life was like the olympic games, because "in them we find three kinds of people: those who seek honor and glory, those who seek wealth, and those who simply seek to contemplate the spectacle, the philosophers. " Greek philosophy is divided into three periods: the presocratic, the classical greek and the. For thales of miletus, water; for anaximander, the indeterminate (apeiron), from which the cold and the hot arose; and for anaximenes, his disciple, the air. Heraclitus, on the other hand, postulated as such a structure to reason (the logos), a unifying principle of opposites; while parmenides pointed out the unity and immutability of being, since non-being simply does not exist.
