Sylhet appears to be shaken most often of any city in bangladesh; besides 1548 it has been damaged in: 1642, 1663, 1812, 1869, 1889, 1897, 1918. It"s location close to the very active himalayan plate boundary likely is the reason for this (i. e. , the earthquakes are not likely inside bangladesh). Se coast of bangladesh in the chittagong region. Written evidence suggested extensive liquefaction plus local tsunamis. Modern studies have documented several effects of this earthquake. 500 people were killed in dhaka not clear if from building collapse or not. Best documented effects are and in around the port city of chittagong.
