Palestine served as the promised land of the jewish people, and they called it canaan. Covenant- the mutual promise between god and the hebrew people; the covenant was extremely important throughout history. At first, it involved abraham"s promise to obey. Yahweh (god) and god"s returned promise to protect the hebrew people. God formed another covenant, as he was given the ten commandments, the basis for civil and religious laws. Monotheism- the belief in a single god, literally meaning one god-worship. hebrews, unlike other ancient peoples, held this belief- eventually leading to monotheism being adopted by the religions of christianity and islam. The torah is considered the most sacred writings of hebrew tradition, including the first five books of the hebrew bible.
