Document Summary
Hard to agree on the question of what comprises the good life. The focus is on the individual and denies that humans are social animals from the get-go, but they have a social contract that the state is derrived from. State is supposed to just serve as protector and arbiter: illiberal democracy would be one where tyranny of the majority goes too far (majority trample rights of the minority via the ballot box) Nationalism and democracy both emphasize self-determination and horizonatal comradeship. Nationalism and liberalism are a bit at odds beccause nationalism is more particular and liberalism are more universal. The latter believes in individuals rights for all, the former believes in rights through the state and for citizens. Causes of war evaluate to understand whether the theory is validated by empirical evidence. Three big liberals theroies: liberal democratic peace theory, economic interdependence theory, liberal institutionalism. Structural causal logics (of peace: cost of war to the public.
