ANSC 340 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Prostaglandin F2Alpha, Ovarian Artery, Estrous Cycle
Document Summary
Functionality of uterine glands changes with estrus cycle. Starts at fornix vagina - - > oviduct. Help developing embryos as they begin to attach. Endometrial folds are unique to sow & mare (instead of hills) Uterine layers (specific names for layers of uterus) Myometrium- outer longitudinal layer & inner circular layer of smooth muscle. Composed of mucosa + submucosa (secreting materials into lumen of uterus) Source of pgf2alpha (produced if no pregnancy to kill cl) Ovarian artery- delivers pgf2alpha to cl (pgf2alpha rerouted/blocked if pregnant) Unique in mares (instead of egg being released, stays and deteriorates) Kinks to prevent movement into uterus before letting go through. Infundibulum- encapsulates ovary to increase chance of catching egg. Broad ligament- eventually forms from portion of peritoneum. Suspends ovaries, oviducts, uterus, cervix, and anterior vagina. Graafian follicle- corpus luteum at top, dominant follicle in center. Corpus luteum- solid tissue composed of luteal (lutenized) cells that originate from the follicle.
