Mare long folds sow spiral rings (boar"s penis screws into cervix directly) site of semen deposition in: sow, sometimes mare. Last portion of ejaculate from boar is a natural plug to keep semen in. Uterus= uterin body + uterin horns organ of pregnancy functions: Proper environment for early embryogenesis (development of embryo) Uterine contractions- good during estrus, bad when pregnant rhythmic- estrus (sperm transport) during labor, more intense. Uterus- hormones estrogen (e2) high in blood rigid/firmer/more toned. *allows for sperm transport progesterone (p4) flaccid less rigid/more relaxed- less tone. *p4 is high at a time when embryo needs to attach.
