Document Summary

I attended the film screening of red moon, facilitated by professor kate mccarthy on march. The film screening was a part of period week , sponsored by the associated. The event was intended to debunk negative stereotypes on the topic of menstruation, while empowering and educating students on the topic. This event relates to our class content based on culture stigmas, superstitions and politics of gender surrounding menstruation. Growing up my mom was always the enforcer in the family, which meant i was intimidated by her. Her intimidation made me afraid to tell her when i first started menses in middle school. She always made menstruation sound like a curse, as if i would get pregnant if a man looked at me, thus i didn"t tell her for two years. In fact she found out because she saw a stain on my clothing. From that day on my social life started to become nonexistent.
