Absolute dating method : establish dates in numbers or ranges of numbers. 1. radiometric techniques--rely on examining the rates of radioactive decay in the elements of the fossils. 2. dendrochronology (tree-ring dating)--study and comparison of patterns of tree-ring growth. Dna comparisons used to assess and date evolutionary relationship. Fossils: remains (e. g. bones), traces, or impressions (e. g. footprints) of ancient life forms.
