Document Summary

Lecture 4: fuel utilization in response to food intake. Triacylglycerols: stay relatively low in blood and then gradually increase over time after eating. Free fatty acids: after eating a meal, they are pretty low and then increase a little around 4ish hours. Amino acids: have a moderate concentration in blood and peak around 30 minutes after eating. After this peak, they begin to be leveled off: they cannot be stored like a carbohydrate (as glycogen) can or fatty acids (as tag) so it takes longer for them to enter the blood. Lactate: has a strong increase in concentration. It stays high for about an hours, and then it drops off again. Ketone bodies and glycerol: both are very and stay at relatively the same concentration. Slide 2: carbohydrate utilization in body after a meal. People eat around 90g of carbs from the diet daily: 15-20 g for brain.
