Pressured to join european union by citizens in western and central ukraine by nationalists. Russia wanted ukraine to join their organization eurasian union. Ukrainian president was going to join european union, but decided to join eurasian union. Nationalist uprising in kiev removed president from power. Russia intervened and funded rebels to be against nationalist regime. Putin seized crimea which is key to establish naval base. Majority of ukrainians want to join european union for prosperity. Putin does not want ukraine to become part of european union. Putin does not want to break up the ukraine. Putin wants to limit ukrainian foreign policy abilities. Wants to control territory for buffer zone. Only way to be destroyed is nuclear weapons.
