ANEQ 102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Progestin, Corpus Luteum, Carbohydrate
Document Summary
Hormones- chemicals produced by specific tissue- travel to other tissue illicit a response. Secreted in a ductless manner- not directly connected to a ducted. Does not require blood to carry it to target. Leaves cell- but does not need to be in circulation. Homeostasis- the body needs to maintain good balance. Stimulus nerve spinal cord brain neck muscle response. Stimulus hormone blood ( needs to go to the brain, gonads, eyes, stomach, toes, etc) target response. Response- driven by ability to bind to a receptor- very very very specific. 3 hormone types: based on the chemical nature of the hormone itself- Examples: oxytocin: comes from posterior pituitary gland. Release: it can end up in different areas, in the horse it is. Hypothalamus- releasing hormones made by the uterus. Pituitary hormones- gonadotropins- gonadal growth stimulate the gonads . Progesterone- pro in favor of gestation or pregnancy. Protein- amino acids (water soluble: no carrier in blood)
