Document Summary

Mrna: messenger rna trna: transfer rna rrna: ribosomal rna. The ribosomes are protein factories: synthesize protein, based on instructions (mrna) received from the dna. Ribosomes use information in mrna to create new proteins. Every cell will have ribosomes because every cell needs proteins. Endomembrane system: parts of the eukaryotic cell that involve membrane. Mechanism of transport for all of the membrane parts within the cell. A network of membrane sacs and tubules; continuous with the nucleus. Smooth er- has no ribosomes associated with it. Rough er- studded or decorated with ribosomes with close association to it. Freshly made proteins and lipids: first made by the ribosomes rer, deposited in er lumen, sugars added, packed into phospholipid vesicles, vesicles pinch off; shipped to the golgi. Golgi apparatus: (organelle) receives cell products and modifies, sorts, stores or secretes them. The cis golgi is the side where new vesicles arrive and fuse. The trans golgi is where vesicles leave via the surface.
