Document Summary

Metaphysics the study of the fundamental questions regarding the nature of reality ( pg 50 ) What kinds of things is reality comprised of: reality contains bodies, reality contains minds, minds are weird. Monism reality consists of one thing: physicalism, mind-brain identity theory everything is physical because your mind is just your brain, eliminativism your mind doesn"t exist. Dualism reality consists of two things: cartesian dualism, naturalistic dualism contemporary version. 4 propositions seem true: the body is a physical thing, the mind is a non-physical thing, the mind and body interact and causally affect one another, non-physical things cannot interact with physical things. Only 3 can actually be true: can reject any one proposition, but there is a price to pay. Dualism: accepts, the body is a physical thing, the mind is a non-physical thing, the mind and body interact and causally affect one another, rejects, non-physical things cannot interact with physical things.
