Document Summary

Reflective equilibrium- an ongoing fair and just balance of rights and restrictions that is achieved by continually using moral intuition and reason to correct any changes in the system to better reflect the values of the original position. Rawls says we will agree to 2 things. Principle of greatest liberty- the idea that everyone should have as much freedom and as many rights as possible to the extent that those freedoms and rights do not infringe upon the freedoms and rights of others. Free until that freedom becomes unfair or unjust. Difference principle- the idea that any inequalities in the system must be open to all and to everyone s advantage. Advantages cannot privilege only a few, or be open only to the elite. A set of moral rules refers to the rules we generate at the original position- rules that govern us, and our society.
