Positive symptoms - presence of inappropriate behaviours. Negative symptoms - absence of appropriate behaviours. Schizophrenia affects nearly 1% of the world"s population. Chronic is slow developing with doubt in ever getting better. Can happen at any time in life, mostly due to trauma. Men: typically appear in late teens or early twenties. Women: typically appears in late twenties early thirties. Being born in the fall or winter makes you more susceptible to developing schizophrenia. Urban environments have a higher likelihood of schizophrenia. Associated with regulation of information coming into/leaving the brain. Hallucinations may be due to basal ganglia not inhibiting certain sensory information.
