The basics of stress: a small amount of stress can be positive. Can mobilize the immune system: extreme or prolonged stress can be harmful. Object/event that causes the stress: stress reaction. How we respond physically and emotionally to a stressor: stress is less about an event, and more about our appraisal of the event. Arousal reappraisal: stressors fall into three main types: Damage to emotional and physical health can be significant. Responding by relocating to a different country increases stress two- fold. Significant life changes (can be positive or negative) Both are stressful (losing a job or getting a new job) Most of these occur during young adulthood: decrease in stress as we age. Everyday annoyances can take a toll on health and well-being. Daily stressors can be compounded: hans selye"s general adaption syndrome (gas)
