Late first stage labor causes increased contractions, closer together and further dilation of cervix (5- Transition = cervix becomes fully dilated, contractions are strongest. First stage labor averages 12-15 hours for 1st pregnancy and 8 hours for later pregnancies. Baby"s head or other body part moves into vagina.
