Your response to a poll question is your response or a part of a broader construct, which is your attitude toward the person or issue. Variables are a tool to measure a construct. What allows us to support our inferences about constructs based on item responses (behaviors) All of these behaviors that are part of the construct go together. If you do some of these things, you probably do them all. Everyone fits neatly on a continuum from low to high. The construct has multiple components or might be expressed in multiple ways. Possible to be high in one dimension but low in another. But all the dimensions are conceptually related and necessary. We used to think of this as one continuum: either you"re happy or sad. But there"s also intensity, mild to high emotions, etc.
