Consider what is the level of measurement they are using this will determine what statistical test you will use - so when analyzing papers, you want to make sure they used the right statistical test. Nominal scale - categories - no numerical scale - no order ex: 1 for male, 2 for female. Ordinal scale - rank order of dependent variables. Successive intervals are not equal - if you subtract 1 from 3 - it doesn"t mean anything - cannot do math with these numbers ex: 1 - strongly agree 2 - somewhat agree ect. Can tell if something is greater or less than. Think about if people are using the ordinal scale and what kind of operations they are using - does it make sense. Interval scale - equal intervals - can compute differences no absolute zero. Ex: reaction time (you can measure differences between the times, but there is no absolute zero as in no reaction)
