Division of labor - people far less skilled (one person bends the metal, hands it to someone who hardens it, etc. ) Factories allowed for higher production that masters could not keep up with - increased demand led to large-scale productions that could bring more people under one operation. Increase in labor pool (freed slaves, immigrants, women, children) Technology - don"t really need skilled craftsmen when machines can do the same work with an unskilled operator.
