Document Summary

In khan"s reading about democratic inequality, i concur with his notion that institutions and peers are powerful socializing agents (khan 2011). Schools, often private ones, socialize students into a world of status and privilege. Like khan, i had a similar experience moving from a public school in a rural area to a much more elite private school. After this change, i had always wondered why most of the best" students came from the wealthiest and most privileged families. Similarly, attending an ivy league college such as cornell caused me to wonder the same. The ivy league and other elite colleges, especially recently, have become much more open by accepting a much more diverse pool of students in regards to race, class or gender. But i still notice that many middle-class students may find it uncomfortable to adapt themselves within the school"s situation and feel unequal, as there is still a large portion of the upper-class within the school.
