He experiences an earthquake while in chile. In argentina, darwin collected fossil bones of animals that are extinct. For example a giant extinct sloth and south american tree sloth. Darwin was able to collect fossils and send them back to england. Made him say maybe there are creatures that existed that aren"t here today. Observation of diversity in ground finches across the galapagos chain.
