Explain how motor unit firing frequency and motor unit recruitment can affect whole muscle force, and how each of these factors is influenced by excitatory command to the motor neuron pool frequency for the active motor neurons/motor units. A larger excitatory command to the motor neuron pool results in a higher firing. Increased command (nt) increases the amount of ca2+ release from sarcoplasm reticulum leading to increased frequency leading to a possible excitatory input above threshold. This can either caused an unfused or fused tetanus depending on the level of force needed or the type of fiber being needed where the so fiber type is recruited first then fog and finally fg for maximal tension. Explain the concept of a motor neuron pool. At the ventral horn of the spinal cord all of the motor neuron cell bodies are located. This pool can be utilized for varying amounts of force needed to perform a contraction.
