Scientific revolution: period in 17th century during which the enterprise of modern science was born, enhanced status of science in society, galilei, descartes, newton. ->earth no longer seen as center of universe (heliocentric mode, newtonian worldview) ->emergence of metaphor of world as a machine (mechanistic view) ->understanding that earth"s movements could be explained by laws of physics. Change of core beliefs would change whole system of beliefs (earth not center of universe) Change of peripheral beliefs can be accommodated without alteration of overall system (new planet) Extensive views on biology, ethics, politics, psychology and on how to conduct scientific investigations. Animism: things have a soul that makes them function in order to achieve the goals they were made for. 24 hours: sub-lunar region (between moon and earth) consists of 5 basic elements: earth, water, air, fire, super-lunar region made of element aether, nature of elements reflected in their way of movement (e. g. earth towards center of universe)
