The real advantage of data analysis with computer software is the ability to. Depending on the software, there will be limitations, so analysing the data examine large data sets in a short period of time digitally will not be fool-proof. E. g. there can be cases in which a fraudulent payment to a vendor does not have any red flags that cause the software to identify it as irregular. There can also be problems with flagged items, in which tens of thousands of records are identified as irregular based on the software"s criteria, and someone has to manually examine each one investigation substitute for good investigative work. Analysis of data using commercial software is not the only piece of a fraud. Once the software identifies potential problems, the fraud investigator must fully investigate each issue to determine whether there is evidence of fraud, or whether the items identified are explained and supported by legitimate documentation.
