Chapter 4: establishing psychology as an independent academic discipline. Defeat of the holy roman empire: the school system was reorganized, and new universities were installed. Fechner: psychophysics inspired by weber, made weber"s law from weber"s findings. Wundt: 1832-1920 student of helmholtz and inspired by fechner. In 1862 he gave his first course in psychology as a natural science . In 1874 he published a book on physiological psychology. In 1879 he opened the first laboratory of experimental psychology this date became the official birth of psychology. Research in his laboratory: he used it to actively promote psychological research: he set up created a journal philosophical studies , he set up a 6 months introductory course, he invited students and colleagues from all over the world.
