GEOG 001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Radiant Energy, Lupinus, Shifting Cultivation
Document Summary
Radiant energy converted to chemical energy by producers (most vegetation) = life on earth. Herbivores/primary sources depend on vegetation as their source of chemical energy. Secondary consumers (like foxes) depend on primary consumers as a source of chemical energy. Large amounts of energy are lost as you move up the food web. Fragmentation and development of highways and towns have interfered with the amount and type of landscape needed for grizzly bears to hunt and thrive. Primary sources depend on the vegetation of forests as well as the forest itself and are extremely affected by fires. However, forest fires can also create room for lupinus which are a plant that primary sources depend. Humans filled open land near forests/grazing land for deer significantly reduced/overpopulation deer"s/overgrazing of remaining land. Limiting factors - factors which limit photosynthesis and are identified as light, heat, water, carbon dioxide and nutrients (physical limitations on life)
