Technology is so new and evolving so quickly, that there needs to be something else to get audience attention. Different versions of a story for different devices. Print readership is different from online readership. Reading habits change from device to device. Attention spans get shorter as the screens get smaller. Online readers aren"t so different from print readers. A good story is a good story". Readers, especially younger ones, have grown used to small screens. Devices will keep changing and evolving anyway. Offering the same news content in multiple formats. Text and video (maybe audio) offered side by side as alternatives. Advantages: simplifies reporting process, competes directly with tv, maximizes advertising option. Disadvantages: formats cannibalize" each other, demands more newsroom resources, video not as popular as expected. Text and video combine together to tell one seamless story. Compliment instead of compete with each other. Advantages: dynamic experience, allows reporters to choose best medium.
