Pr firms are chasing people with journalistic skills. Newsrooms are smaller but 24/7 digital platforms require them to constantly generate new posts; a well-written and newsworthy press release can save the day. Pr practitioners control access to key officials / sources that journalists need. Journalists may depend more than ever on news/press releases, but yours still needs to win the competition. Most journalists are flooded with releases every day. Legitimate/distinctive news or feature angle; be selective. Sufficient background and definitions but no jargon. No promotional language; use facts, not adjectives. Be aware of good or bad timing. Send photos / videos (or at least identify opportunities) Know who to send to; a personalized story pitch helps. Provide contact information for questions; be prepared to help journalists do their own reporting.
