PSY 001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 26: Behavior Modification, Observational Learning, Operant Conditioning
Document Summary
Repetition of behavior is dependent on the consequences. Made association between unconditional and conditional experience. If a behavior leads to a rewarding/satisfying consequence, it will likely happen again (and vice versa) Our behavior is based on the principle of reinforcement. Environment is filled with reinforcement (consequences) that. Positive something good happens so behavior will continue. Negative responding to something bad and stopping it. Escaping or avoiding something unpleasant or bad. Ex: rat getting shocked by bar; therefore won"t press bar anymore. Does not actually stop behavior but suppresses behavior. Reduced likelihood of behavior in presence of punisher. Doesn"t tell a person what to do; rather what not to do. Ex: rat presses bar and nothing happens; rat will eventually stop. May form association between our behavior and consequences. Must occur in close sequence to each other. Primary biologically or physically important to the person. Primarily for when you have a behavior that doesn"t yet occur.
