Document Summary
Learning is a process of acquiring new and relatively enduring information or behaviors. We learn through association: associative learning: learning that certain events occur together. The event may be two stimuli or a response and its consequences. In classical conditioning, we learn to associate two stimuli and thus to anticipate events. Respondent behavior: respondent behavior: behavior that occurs as an automatic response to some stimulus. In operant conditioning, we learn to associate response and its consequence operant behavior: operant behavior: behavior that operates on the environment, producing consequences. Conditioning is not the only form of learning, cognitive learning helps us acquire mental information that guides our behavior: cognitive conditioning: the acquisition of mental information, whether by observing events, by watching others, or language. Ivan pavlov explore classical conditioning: classical conditioning: a type of learning in which one learns to link two or more stimuli and anticipate events.
