When people enter their forties, they start to go to middle adult hood where they realize that life will soon be mostly behind them instead of ahead of them midlife transition. For 1 in 4 people who suffer a crisis, they weren"t triggered by age, it was triggered by a major event. Social clock: the culturally preferred timing of social events such as marriage, parenthood, and retirement. There are 2 aspects in our life that dominate adulthood: 1. Freud said the healthy adult is one who can love and work. Means a lot: happiness is about having work that fits your interests, and provides you with a sense of competence and accomplishment. From teens to midlife, you experience a strengthening sense of identity, confidence, and self esteem. Adults are happier when they are not alone. For older people, brain scans shows that the neural processing center for emotions respond less to negative images.
