Document Summary

Nervous system is body"s communication network which is all nerve cells and central nervous. Cns- brain and spinal cord; body"s decision maker. Dendrites: branchy extensions that receives messages from another neuron and sends to cell body. Axon: highway passes messages away from cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands. Myelin sheath: covers the axon of some neurons and helps speed neural impulses. Neural impulse (action potential): electrical signal travelling down axon. Terminal branches of axon: form junctions with other cells. Neuron fires action potential when it reaches a threshold. Neuron in resting potential receives signals from other neurons, soe say fire some say no. When threshold is met, the action potential starts moving like a gun, it does not matter how much more stimulation it gets past the threshold (either fires or not) called all-or-none response. The ap travels down the axon from the cell body to terminal branches. The signal is transmitted to another cell.
