How long do they keep playing with markers after reward. Less interested in markers after expected award (extrinsic rewards undermine intrinsic, less effective than intrinsic) People in same position as outside observer. Michotte 1946 - the perception of causality - when something happens right after another thing, there seems to be causation. 1944 - video of shapes moving around, two escaping from one - we assign emotions and mental states to these inanimate objects. Mental states - hidden causes of behavior. Causes personalities, goals, desires, beliefs, emotions, sensations. Study 1 - then barrier disappears, ball either hops over nothing or goes straight. Babies watch a ball hop over barrier until they get bored. Measured how long the baby looks - babies are surprised to see the hop.
