Mental states - hidden causes of behavior. Causes personalities, goals, desires, beliefs, emotions, sensations. Study 1 - then barrier disappears, ball either hops over nothing or goes straight. Babies watch a ball hop over barrier until they get bored. Measured how long the baby looks - babies are surprised to see the hop.
