PSY 005 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Nonverbal Communication, Fore People, Paul Ekman
Document Summary
One approach is to make people a little more humble about their reasoning abilities. Often we have greater con dence in our judgements than we should. Overcon dence barrier: people tend to have too much con dence in the accuracy of their judgments; their judgments are usually not as correct as they think they are. Another approach might be to address the overcon dence directly, getting people to consider the possibility that they might be wrong. Another approach is to directly teach people some basic statistical and methodological principles about how to reason correctly, with the hope that they will apply those principles in their everyday lives. Studies have proven that people"s reasoning can be improved by university statistics courses, graduate training in research design, and even brief one-time lessons. Found that in order to improve reasoning abilities, it was necessary to introduce tutorial sessions that focused explicitly on the application of course material to reasoning in everyday contexts.
