Dsm5 states at least 6 months of excessive anxiety must be ongoing more days than not. Gad is one of the most common anxiety disorders. Most common in girls, except in south africa. Panic disorder- individuals experience sever, unexpected panic attacks. Agoraphobia- fear and avoidance of situations where a person feels unsafe to escape to get home in the event of a developing panic-like symptoms. Patients must experience unexpected panic attacks and develop anxiety over the possibility of having another to be classified for pd. Onset of panic disorder usually begins early adult life. Panic control treatment- exposes patients with panic disorders to physical sensations that remind them of their panic attacks. Combined treatment is no better than individual treatment. Treatment with cbt and no drugs proved to be best. Specific phobia- irrational fear of an object or situation that interferes with ability to function. Four major subtypes: blood-injection-injury type, situational type, natural environment type, animal type.
