Panic attacks: abrupt, very intense fear/discomfort; peaks quickly; pounding heart; hard to breathe; sweating; experience of going crazy; feels like you are having heart attack anxiety of future. Must experience an unexpected panic attck and develop. Another attack or about the implications of the attack. Typically seen in children; failing to speak in specific social situations when there is no physical or language difficulty that prevents speaking; lasts atleast one month; interferes with your life- social, work, school, etc. Social phobia: biological/evolutionary vulnerability, traumatic exposure either directly or vicariously, negative reinforcement, family influence. Persistent, extreme, irrational fear of social/performance situations due to concern of making mistake or being judged. Biological and evolutionary adaptive to not go and make friends with every snake you see. Some tendency for some phobias compared to others. Direct conditioning- 4 yr old playing in backyard- cute snake- doesn"t wish to play and bites- leads to trauma/ direct classical conditioning- doesn"t need to happen again.
