Night eating syndrome- consuming a third or more of food intake during night. Rapid eye movement (rem) sleep- dream sleep. Dyssomnias- difficulties in getting enough sleep, quality of sleep, and sleeping on time. Parasomnias- abnormal behavior or physiological events during sleep; nightmares/sleepwalking. Polysomnographic (psg) evaluation- shows one"s sleep habits. Sleep efficiency- percentage of time actually spent asleep. Insomnia- have trouble falling asleep, wake up frequently and can"t fall back asleep. Primary insomnia- insomnia that does not relate to other medical/psychiatric problems. Rebound insomnia- where sleep problems reappear, sometimes worse. Hypersomnolence disorders- sleeping too much; be well rested, yet complain about still being tired throughout the whole day. People can also face sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations. Breathing-related sleep disorders- sleep disruption caused by breathing problems. Obstructive sleep apnea- airflow stops despite activity by the respiratory system. Central sleep apnea- complete cessation of respiratory activity for brief periods and is associated with central nervous system disorders.
