Darwin"s main contribution was the synthesis of ideas with personal observations of the natural word. As environmental conditions changed, off spring without the advantages would have to adapt to these changes to survive. Darwin noted that there was a lot of variation in the beak shape of the finches. Also noted that the beak shape of the finches determines what types of food they ate for preferred foods and fall-back foods. Beak depth is heritable: offspring resemble more-or-less their parents. One year only large birds with deep beaks survived. The finch"s beaks are a great example of natural selection. There are many forces that contribute to evolution, natural selection is one of them. We cannot attribute an animals characteristics based on one simple event. There is no static species because they"re always changing through multiple factors of evolution. Wallace came to the same conclusion as darwin the only difference is the social standing and resources.
