School is different from preschool: starting school is, a major transition, full of challenges, child care arrangements, teachers and school-age care staff can help. In a family-centered program: teacher sees the importance of creating relationships with each family, home visits, making a home school connection, making decisions together. School-age child: stages of development, erik erikson"s- psychosocial stages of development, ages 6-10. Industry vs inferiority: the play years , urge to master many skills. What families want for their children: the key to understanding each family is becoming a good communicator, finding time, planned and unplanned, scheduling, have interpreters, two-way-back and forth, trust issues involved. Teaching prosocial skills and morals: how do children come to know right from wrong, cultural, should and shouldn"t, values absorbed during infancy, little lessons, reflected life values. Decision making process: a way of exploring morals, decisions, choices, actions, thought.
