Before the colonization of puerto rico, the phillippines and cuba (guantanamo) United states granted territory status to the inhabitants of the newly conquered lands. 1902 cuba was writing constitution and it must include platt amendement. Have the right to invade and give us the piece of land. 1940"s it was taken out of the constitution. Nation building ended after 1898 and it became a colony. Territory, then after option to become a state flag may fly over puerto rico but doesn"t follow the united states constitution. Can"t vote for president of the united states. Can"t use other shipping companys, only the united states companys.
