Assists to those who are already parents to be more effective in their roles as well as to educate individuals who plan to become parents in the future. 1980s to now: benefits towards these programs and increased programs and seminars. The changing nature of parenting: infancy and early childhood. Research continually demonstrates that how parents is fundamental. Parent-child relationships is the emotional and physical connection between the parent and the child. Relationships grow from interactions and are influenced by: Difficult to achieve when parent and child have clashing temperaments. Discrepancies in roles- fathers perceive their involvement in parenting as much higher than what mothers reported. Related to an increase in relational stress, conflict, and dissatisfaction for moms and perceptions of unfairness. Environment: (home, school, community, and peers) shapes development. Operant and classical conditioning (skinner and watson) , social learning theory, learn by observation (bandura) Theories: how kids think, reason, and understand their world.
