Gendered spaces are part of every woman"s and man"s daily life. Gender is a powerful ideological device, which produces, reproduces, and legitimates the choices and limits that are predicated on sex category. Gender is performative and we perform our genders in various ways. There are difference expectations in regards to culture, clothing, personality, hobby, sports, family matter perspectives. Ways girls are gendered in early childhood: dresses, dolls, pink, ok to cry. Ways boys are gendered in early childhood: trucks, airplanes, trains, blue, be tough. Scotland: norm for men to wear kilts. Tanzania: norm for heterosexual men to hold hands in public. Socialized to employ tag questions ( what do you think ) Socialized to be attentive, responsive, and open in conversation. Socialized to demonstrate strength and independence through talk. Socialized to dominate conversations by talking more and interrupting others.
